Our Story
Objects for considered living.
Interior 31 is a Toronto-based design studio founded by Viviana Michaud, creating limited-edition soft furnishings at the intersection of art and living.
Defined by its dedication to material contrast, handcraft, and emotional resonance, the studio produces each design in strictly limited editions of 31 — reinforcing a philosophy of rarity, intention, and authorship.
Every piece is conceived as a singular work: an object that carries tension and tactility, where softness meets structure and colour becomes language. Interior 31 transforms textiles into sculptural forms designed to bring depth, clarity, and quiet presence into contemporary spaces.

Viviana Michaud is the founder and creative director of Interior 31. Based in Toronto and shaped by Mexican and French heritage, her work reflects a layered cultural sensibility informed by movement across cities, traditions, and visual languages.
With a background in fine art, design, fashion, and styling, she approaches objects through a conceptual and compositional lens — balancing restraint with boldness, clarity with emotional weight. Her work is defined by structure, proportion, and a deliberate tension between softness and edge.
Materiality sits at the centre of her practice. Through limited-edition textile works, she explores form, surface, and contrast — pairing woven fabrics, leather, and embroidery to create sculptural objects that remain deeply tactile and lived-in.
Interior 31 operates as an extension of this philosophy: a disciplined yet expressive studio practice where craftsmanship meets concept. Each release reflects an evolving study of material, atmosphere, and culture — developed intentionally, and produced in focused editions of 31.

01 — Art First
Design is a dialogue, not decoration. Every piece begins with a conceptual foundation—rooted in art history, spatial theory, or emotional architecture.02 — Limited by Design
Each design exists in an edition of 31. This boundary guides creativity, reinforces collectibility, and minimizes excess. Scarcity is not imposed—it is integral.03 — Tactile Integrity
Materials are selected for how they feel in the hand and in the space. Weight, texture, and construction are treated with the same importance as form and colour.04 — Emotional Functionality
Our pieces are meant to be lived with. They offer comfort without compromise—serving the body while engaging the mind.05 — Colour as Language
Colour is treated as a conceptual tool, not a trend. It is used to evoke memory, presence, and spatial tension—chosen for emotional impact rather than seasonal relevance.
